Here at KSiteTV’s Gothamsite portal, we were able to interview Natalie Abrams, one of the creators and Co-Executive Producer behind the upcoming Gotham Knights TV show which premieres March 14 on The CW, but before we get into that very detailed conversation, we’re offering up a tease, one week before the big season premiere. That tease, of course, will involve a big TV fan favorite, Misha Collins, and what he brings to the role of the not-yet-two-faced District Attorney Harvey Dent.
Collins has a huge fan base, especially from his long run as the angel Castiel in The CW’s Supernatural, and with Natalie being in the sphere of TV fandom – first as a journalist, and later as a writer on such series as Supergirl and Batwoman – how much did she geek out when Misha Collins was cast in this iconic role?
“Oh, my goodness. I had no idea just how dedicated and devoted the Supernatural fandom is,” Natalie exclaimed. Of course, she had visited the set of Supernatural in Vancouver and interviewed the cast many times, but that was a beat usually covered by her Entertainment Weekly co-worker Samantha Highfill. This casting, of course, showed her even more how true those fans could be.
“Once we cast Misha, just to see the fan reaction… I was blown away. It made me like Twitter again! Everyone was really nice,” she told us.
As for what made Misha Collins right for Harvey Dent?
“That first chat with Misha, you could just see how much he really cares and how passionate he is about everything he does. Not just acting, or being a father, or being a friend; but also just being an advocate, being an ally, and being someone who tries to help other people. That speaks so much to what Harvey Dent is, setting aside who we all know Harvey Dent will become in the comics. This is what we hope to be a definitive origin story for Harvey Dent, in his de-evolution into becoming this iconic DC Comics villain. There’s no one better to play it than him, because he’s got that heart,” Natalie said.
